University of Washington Seattle Atmospheric Sciences Class of 2027
I am a University of Washington Seattle Class of 2027 undergraduate student pursuing majors in Atmospheric Sciences: Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences: Data Science, along with a minor in Applied Mathematics. My academic interests focus on leveraging artificial intelligence techniques to improve meteorological prediction models, particularly for extreme weather events.
Currently, I am working with Professor Alexandra Anderson-Frey on a research project evaluating AI meteorological models' tornado prediction capabilities for the Oklahoma region. This project aims to explore the potential of deep learning algorithms in improving short-term weather forecast accuracy. Additionally, I am honored to have received the Departmental Scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year, which motivates me to continue striving on my academic journey.
In extracurricular activities, I actively engage in meteorological popular science, operating a science communication channel on Bilibili with over 2,600 followers and more than 300,000 views. I also joined the school's DawgCast meteorological forecasting club, practicing weather forecasting skills with other meteorology enthusiasts. If you are interested in my research or science communication work, please feel free to contact me via email leoluo@uw.edu.
